This week’s Illustration Friday topic is “Space”. I tried to resist the extra terrestrial and instead submitted this painting of the spacious view from our house. Where the sea meets the sky the horizon seems to stretch forever. This storm approached from Bass Point and within minutes lashing rain and lightning followed, enveloping the whole house.
The next day our postman came to the door and saw the painting. “Hey, was that the storm we had yesterday?” ”Yes” I smiled. Space.

Love the drama and the vastness, great work!
This is wonderful. I can fell the change in air pressure and smell the storm coming just by looking at this!
Awesome painting, I love paintings of clouds as much as watching the real thing (and thanks for your comment).
Loooove it!! The mood is perfect… nature is so powerful and unpredictable. You captured it so very perfectly!! (thank you for stopping by my website, it made me discover your wonderful site and artwork!!)
Love the mood of this one. Lovely!
Terrific! Love how you’ve painted this. Makes a very dramatic picture
The contrasting textures in this are so powerful, particularly the transition from light to dark, left to right. In the classic Constable and Turner tradition – brilliant work!
Cheers, Ian. Yes the light to dark transition is something I try to keep in mind for my portrait painting as well.
those dark spaces really pull you deep inside the painting especially as they come up against the contrasting light. Lovely! and I enjoyed the story of the painting and the observant postman’s recognition.
Nice to hear from you Alicia. Feel free to drop by again!
wonderful clouds, beautiful painting
with the sea and sky becoming one, it makes a very dramatic painting
Thanks Linda! Glad you like the painting.
Hi, I like clouds, their amazing forms and far awayness. I like your clouds full of thunder and storm. You captured their beauty, their greatness and threat.
Thanks Hedwig! Yes the clouds here can change by the minute, one moment fluffy… next moment dark and threatening. I have had an idea for a painting series of just clouds in my head for a while now…
Oh yes, do! I have the same thought when I look up. I live in Holland, in the country. We have very big sky’s. I’m no painter, but you are.
This is absolutely gorgeous–both in its sense of space and in the surface. Wow.
Appreciate your feedback… thanks for stopping by!
That’s so beautiful, I love it!
Great, thanks Cargoleta!
